Someone in our city didn't eat dinner last night
Even for working families, it is hard to make ends meet these days. At Community Services, caseworkers are available to attend to families in financial distress by providing the attention families need through the following programs:
Rent
Through The Salvation Army Homeless Prevention Program, Community Services can assist families facing eviction or homeless families attaining permanent housing. How to apply.
Clothing & Furniture
Through a partnership with The Salvation Army Thrift Store, Community Services can provide clothing and furniture vouchers when there is an extreme need. Many of the suits and dresses donated to the Thrift Store are used to help individuals look professional after attaining employment. Furniture is given to families after securing permanent housing.

Life Skills Classes
Using the on-site demonstration kitchen and classrooms, classes are offered free of charge to help individuals learn the skills they need to succeed. Cooking, Money Management, Computer, Employment, Responsible Renters, Parenting and Healthy Relationship Classes are just a few of the classes offered. Please call for a complete schedule.
Back-to-School
Each summer Fred Meyer, ShopKo and other local partners collect donations of new backpacks and school supplies for The Salvation Army. Families needing help affording this expense can pick up items at The Salvation Army during the School Supply Distribution in late August. Please call for the date of this event.

Food
Community Services is the largest distributor of the 20 local food banks that receive food from Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Northwest. As a regional distributor, the Community Services Food Bank can assist families and individuals living in any zip code with supplemental food every 30 days.
Thanksgiving
With the help of Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland NW and Tom’s Turkey Drive, The Salvation Army organizes the largest Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution in the Spokane area. Families are invited to The Salvation Army Community Center at 222 East Indiana Avenue the Tuesday before Thanksgiving to receive a Thanksgiving Basket.
